Siobhan classes it up

...just in time to be eliminated. I was up and down throughout the season about American Idol contestant Siobhan Magnus's signature screaming vocals, but I always hated her signature quirky style. Until last night. Siobhan turned it out with her elimination night dress, a satin colorblocked pink number from Express ($98). This look was a total departure from her usual punky dresses, flat boots, and 80's inspired pieces. It's almost as if girlfriend knew she was going home and wanted to go out with a little class. She looked great showing off her hot little figure, and I'm looooving the dress. My friend Sarah also owns this dress, and both she and Siobhan added a black belt which is a smart move. The ruching on this dress is already super slimming, and adding a belt is a great way to nip in the waist even more and break up the pink.

Kinda agree with eliminating Siobhan (I was over it), and def agree with this fashion statement!

This is a NEW show?

On June 1st MTV will premiere its latest reality show, Downtown Girls. From the concept to the voiceover to the cinematography I'm really struggling to see that this is a different show than The Hills and especially The City. It's all so traditional-schmiditional-medicinal. I seriously got confused and thought Shallon (real name) was LC in the frozen screenshot...and then "Bachelor" Vienna in her lameass video blog.

None the less, I'm still pretty convinced that I'm doing something wrong with life not being a cast member on The DownHillsCity Girls. I think I need to get a posher name. Mallon is sounding pretty good right about now.

So not as funny as the "Jersey Shore" one

Kids act out "The Hills". Not funny because nothing highly inapropriate is being said.

But kinda priceless that Audrina keeps looking at the ceiling...

Necessary cuteness

Einstein is the world's smallest baby horse. He's only 6 pounds and 14 inches tall. Pretty sure I had My Little Ponies bigger than that.

Seriously, you cannot be in a bad mood after watching that.

Cervezas y peliculas y tacos...si por favor!

Cabrito

I know I rarely write about legitimate restaurants, but Cabrito has a bar, a really fun atmosphere, and stocks more varieties of tequila than my liver can even handle reading about. So it qualifies as a bar for this blog fo-sho. Plus I'm not much of a foodie, so what I really want to spotlight is the social atmosphere of Cabrito which is festive and kick ass. A group of girlfriends and I recently visited this Mexican restaurant for their Monday movie night special which is probs one of the best deals in Manhattan: $25 buys all you can drink Dos Equis beer, all you can eat tacos, and the viewing of a "classic" movie. (Def go for the special, Cabrito's regular menu is a bit pricey for Mexican, though I'm sure tasty). At Cabrito they're thankfully not partaking in film snobbery, we spent an enjoyable evening watching The Sandlot while making friends with other customers (by yelling across the bar), playing drinking games related to the movie and stuffing our face with tacos. Cabrito offers 7 varieties of gourmet tacos with the special, and my favorites were the Ensenada-style Fish, Al Pastor (pork with a pineapple flavoring), and Tinga de Pollo (chicken). Feeling adventurous? Try the Lengua y Tomatillo taco. That's a tongue-taco for the espaƱol challenged, although maybe I shouldn't have told you... To top it all off, there's a large pink goat over the entrance. What could be more fun than that?

Poor Snookers

Bad news? Snooki got her heart broken. She set her gorilla free into the wild after he allegedly cheated on her. I feel a deep personal connection to Snooki so this truly makes me sad. I firmly believe that despite bad decisions with Russ/Ron, Cowboy Keith, The Situation, her recent beau Emilio Masella, etc, etc, that she was truly looking for love.

Good news? Now maybe we'll finally get the TV show we've all been waiting for, Snookin for Love!

How to succeed? Show the peen!

Apparently the way to score lead roles in Broadway musicals for which you are probably too young and when you have no demonstrated singing ability...is to have flashed your junk. Daniel Radcliffe is slated to star in the spring 2011 Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying as J. Pierrepont Finch, a character who is roughly in his mid or late twenties. Matthew Broderick was 33 when he played this role in the 1995 revival, Radcliffe will only by 21. Radcliffe is obvi known as Harry Potter in the 6 and counting movies of that franchise, but his only Broadway credit came in 2008/2009 when he dropped trou in Equus (which I of course thoroughly enjoyed).

Without this previous notoriety on Broadway, I would find it very surprising that Radcliffe was cast as Finch. I love How to Succeed and will absolutely make a point of seeing the new production, but I don't know how high my expectations are. Radcliffe is a great dramatic actor, but can he be funny and more importantly can he sing? Finch is a legitimate role, demanding vocally and physically, and I can't help but question whether young Radcliffe is ready.

Zac Attack!

If you noticed a stampede of stiletto-clad fashionistas among the sneaker-clad commuters outside Penn Station today, it's because Zac Posen's new collection for Target is holding a preview pop-up shop. For 24 hours only, New Yorkers can browse and purchase Posen's discount collection at 481 8th Avenue (at 34th Street) before it debuts in Targets across the nation on April 25. The shop is open from April 15 at 11pm-April 16 at 11pm, creating a limited but unique shopping experience featuring an overnight party vibe.

I'm not much of a night person so I didn't run to the store when doors opened, and I don't think I'll be hitting it up today either. The prices are great for the everyday woman who wants some Posen in her life ($79.99 for this fluffy red number), but aside from this dress I'm not impressed with the collection as a whole. The prints in mostly reds and pinks are fun but not chic, and the gold metallic dress and swimsuits border on tacky. The black dresses, jacket and pants are nice, but hardly standout pieces. This collection is missing the chic drama that Posen usually brings, and in my opinion doesn't have the same "must have" factor as many of Target's previous designer lines.

Real Housewife reveals her "Secrets" at party in LES

One of New York's most famous yentas is spilling her secrets in a new book, and this time her whole family is getting in on the act. Last night I attended the book party for Secrets of a Jewish Mother by Real Housewife Jill Zarin, her mother Gloria Kamen, and sister Lisa Wexler (released tomorrow, April 15). The party was held at Zarin Fabrics in the Lower East Side and most of the usual suspects were in attendance: Bobby and Ally Zarin, Ramona Singer, Kelly Bensimon, the Countess LuAnn des Lesseps. No Bethenny in case anyone thought there was a smidgen of a change she'd be there. Also noticeably absent, much to my dismay, was Ginger! Other guests included Jersey Housewife Caroline Manzo (who is surprisingly prettier in person) with daughter Lauren, and new NY Housewife Jennifer Gilbert who seemed to fit into the group quite well.

The setting of a red carpet event in a fabric store was slightly cramped and awkward, but somewhat made sense given the family values of the book (not to mention the dollars saved on a venue fee). Another nice touch were the Jill, Gloria, and Lisa themed specialty cocktails with X Rated liquor, but I stuck with the personal bottles of Pop Champagne drank through a straw which obvi makes it very classy. I got a short preview of the book when meeting Jill at work a month ago and loved the familiar, direct, heartwarming voice and sage advice. Secrets of a Jewish Mother is released tomorrow and I can't wait to read the whole thing. Mazel, Jill!
