Spotted: Current Top Chef contestant Ed Cotton at the bar of the Smyth Hotel in Tribeca, where he is the executive chef of their Plein Sud restaurant. Friday night I was pre-gaming with some friends who were hotel guests, and in walks a familiar looking man in a chef coat. After having a total omg moment, we went over and talked to him for about 20 minutes. He could not have been cooler! He's still with the girl he was dating during the show, and he has been with Plein Sud since they opened almost 6 months ago (with a slight break to do a lil TV show on Bravo, you may have heard of it...) Apparently there's still no proof about what happened during Pea-Puree-Gate 2010, although to me the case seems pretty obvious and totally rules in Ed's favor. As of press time Ed is one of the final 6 contestants on the show, and I think he has a great shot at the title. Team Ed!

Celeb sightings: Reality star edition
Spotted: Project Runway season 4 alum Kevin Christiana at the Barrow Street Ale House in the West Village last Thursday. He still looks exactly the same as he did on ProRun back in 2007 is easily recognizable with his signature facial hair. None the less, my gentlemen companion asked how the hell I recognized him, and sadly I had to admit it's because I watch way too much television.

I really try to keep it classy in the big city, but every now and then a gal like me needs somewhere to let loose and allow her true po-dunk self to come through. That is what dive bars are for, and The Patriot is quite possibly the only true one of the genre that you'll find in NYC. The country music is in full effect fueled by juke boxes on each of The Patriot's two floors, and it's not hard to find a cute drunk boy to dance with (even if he does think dancing to Brooks & Dunn is pleasantly ironic while I consider it a necessary part of life). The drink prices are unfathomably low, we're talkin $2 cans and $6 pitchers of PBR (don't hate), with most other drinks and shots along the same level of cheapness. And obvi the cheaper drinks are, the drunker one can get! As drunk as I may have been, I 'm pretty positive I also saw their food menu boasting the same heavenly prices with many items well less than $5, and from what I hear the bar grub is pretty yummy. My one regret from my recent Patriot trip is that I didn't take the barmaid up on her invitation to dance on the bar, but as fun and friendly as she was, the current song wasn't up to my bar-dancing standards and I wasn't about to break the seal and be the lone drunk girl dancing on the bar. To all you posh nay-sayers: yes, The Patriot is a BAR in the truest sense of the word and it's not apologizing for a lil grit. But if New Yorkers can take the sticks out of their asses and come on down, I think anyone would be surprised at what a good time they'll have. And when y'all come back, I'll be the hot blonde boot-scootin on the bar.

Don your smoking jacket and throw your pinkies in the air, because it's time to hit up the Brandy Library. This posh lounge truly feels like you've stepped into your rich uncle's den filled with rich mahogany, many leather bound books with big words and of course, brandy! Even if you're not a connoisseur of the beverage, the knowledgeable staff of Brandy Library will be glad to walk you through their extensive menu and school you on anything and everything brandy. Be on your best behavior, the same 12-inch-voice rule that kindergarten teachers across America use also seems to be in effect at the BL. Now sit back and relax with one of their seemingly hundreds of specialty cocktails (brandy or otherwise) which are served in the cutest miniature martini glasses ever! (oops, I just squealed above my 12-inch-voice) For such a highfalutin establishment, Brandy Library's prices are extremely reasonable, but I would recommend a reservation...and maybe a fake ID. Allegedly Brandy Library has a 25 and over age policy, that is unless you bat your pretty little eyelashes and flip your perfect blonde mane (not that I would ever do that).

Walker's is the epitome of your comfortable local (non-dive) bar. A food menu of American classics and a great (and cheap!) selection of beers and wines makes me immediately take a liking to this Tribeca corner bar. The place is full of locals and regulars, but even as a first timer you'll feel right at home thanks to the friendly bartenders and patrons more than willing to give up their bar stool to a purtty little lady. Try the seasonal brew, currently infused with blueberry flavor, to give your liver and your soul that warm fuzzy feeling on a cold winter's night. The kitchen stays open late at Walker's, making this the perfect place to take care of those drunk munchies in style.
